How many sessions will I need?
This is a difficult question to answer and the truth is that it depends on the nature of your problem and your goals for therapy.
Depending on your situation, it might be only as few as one session, or if there are more complex difficulties, longer term work might be recommended. Contact us using the form below to discuss how many sessions might be suitable for you.
Is online trauma therapy as effective as in-person?
Research shows that online trauma therapy, including EMDR, can be just as effective as in-person treatment for many people. Online sessions are conducted through a secure platform and follow the same evidence-based approaches used in face-to-face therapy. Some clients even find online therapy more comfortable as they can engage from a familiar environment. We can discuss whether online or in-person sessions would better suit your needs during our initial consultation.
Is parking available at your Bedford practice?
Yes, there is free parking available directly outside the practice.
How far are you from Milton Keynes?
The practice is approximately 20 minutes drive from Milton Keynes, making it accessible for clients from across Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. Online therapy is also available if travel is challenging.
What is an initial consultation?
An initial consultation is a 60–90-minute appointment online or face to face to discuss your current situation and provide recommendations going forward. It is also an opportunity for you to make sure you feel comfortable with the psychologist and for them to check they have the skills and expertise to support you.
At what times do you offer sessions?
We aim to offer a flexible service that fits around you as much as possible. Sessions are currently offered Monday-Thursday during the day. Some evening slots may be available. We are also able to offer online assessments and sessions.
Can EMDR help with anxiety as well as trauma?
Yes, EMDR therapy can be effective for various anxiety-related conditions, not just trauma. It's particularly helpful for phobias, panic attacks, and anxiety stemming from past negative experiences. As an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, I can help determine if EMDR would be beneficial for your specific anxiety concerns.
Practice and Location FAQs
How long is a therapy session?
Each therapy session is 50 minutes. They usually take place on a regular basis, such as weekly or fortnightly. However, this will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. Some therapeutic models, such as EMDR, may require longer appointments.
How do I know if I need trauma therapy?
You might benefit from trauma therapy if you experience:
Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares
Feeling on edge or easily startled
Avoiding places, people, or situations that remind you of traumatic events
Changes in mood, sleep, or relationships
Difficulty concentrating or feeling present
Physical symptoms like tension or unexplained pain Even if you're unsure whether your experiences qualify as trauma, it's worth reaching out for an initial consultation to discuss your concerns.
What's the difference between a Clinical Psychologist and other therapists?
Clinical Psychologists complete a doctorate-level training (typically 3 years post-graduate) and are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This extensive training enables us to work with complex mental health difficulties using various evidence-based approaches. We are trained in multiple therapy models and can integrate different approaches based on individual needs. Clinical Psychologists also have specific training in assessment, formulation, and research, allowing us to tailor treatment plans to each client's specific circumstances.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
I currently offer appointments Monday through Thursday, including some evening slots. While weekend appointments aren't currently available, I strive to provide flexible scheduling options to accommodate work and other commitments. Please enquire about current availability for evening sessions.
